Business principles

Our business provides the essential facilities for community citizenship: housing, hospitals, places of learning, retail, leisure, industrial facilities, infrastructure and more. When we create these built environments, we also have a responsibility to manage the impact we have on society and the broader environment.

In all aspects of our responsibility towards society, Royal BAM Group works closely with our employees, customers, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the supply chain. We will continue to balance short-term and longterm interests as well as integrate economic, environmental and social considerations into our strategic decision-making. We are open-minded in dialogue with those who are affected by our operations and communicate with our external stakeholders in a timely and effective manner. This is what we call our corporate responsibility.

The BAM Business Principles provide the basis for managing our corporate responsibilities. They form the starting point for developing and implementing our policies and procedures.

People: treating our customers, employees and communities with respect

1. Customers: We strive to satisfy our customers
It is vital that our clients trust the company and we meet their expectations. We will work with and support our customers in developing sustainable solutions to meet their needs.

2. Community: We promote good community relations
By its very nature, new construction or refurbishment has an impact upon the local environment and people surrounding our activities. We take a proactive stance in ensuring that our work causes the minimum of disruption to our neighbours and their communities. We also aim to make a positive contribution by becoming involved with community initiatives and schemes, thereby promoting and enhancing good community relations.

3. Employees: We are committed towards our employees
We recognise the need to be able to attract, recruit and retain employees with the potential, skills and experience necessary for the continued growth and development of our business. The commitments to our people are embodied within the following:

We will take all reasonable steps to manage our operations so as to minimise our environmental impact and promote good environmental practice. We acknowledge our responsibility to the natural environment and strive to minimise any negative impact.

5. Energy and resources: We will improve efficiency
Acknowledging the energy intensity of the built environment and the challenges posed by climate change, we are committed to improving the energy-efficiency of our operations, products and services. We will regularly review our business practices and performance to identify how we can reduce our requirements for energy, transport and water usage. We will also promote good practices in respect of recycling and waste minimisation. Where possible we will use alternative materials and methods to optimise the use of resources in collaboration with our clients and suppliers.

6. Business integrity: We stand for fair competition
We are committed to operating as a responsible business. This means conducting our activities according to rigorous ethical, professional and legal standards. We will not condone corruption, bribery or unfair anti-competitive behaviour.
